The Lowdown on Lulu

Lulu is owned and run by Sally Goldsmith, who never imagined in a million years that having a design shop would be in her future. Growing up amidst the sights and sounds of Balaclava in the 80's and 90's, Sally used to stand patiently with her mother at the Continental Butcher on the corner of Nelson St, waiting for the slice of Kabana that would always be offered. As a third generation shopper of the grocery stores on Carlisle St, the intoxicating fragrance of freshly ground coffee beans from the Coffee Company would be an indelible olfactory memory that would linger and go on to become a fixture of her adult life.

After taking over the fledgling business on the corner of Westbury and Carlisle St in 2006, Sally put her head down and worked on evolving the store into a place where locals would never tire of visiting, tailoring the range to the wants and needs of the Balaclava residents.

in 2010, Little Lulu, the sibling store for babies and kids, was opened next door. After 14 successful years, and having established her own family with kids, Sally decided to re-focus her attentions on her original project - the corner shop.

With the help of friend and local interior design wunderkind Tali Roth, Sally transformed the space into its current incarnation - a colour drenched treasure trove of products she has painstakingly curated from all corners of the global, with a focus on stocking things that make people smile, at accessible prices.

Sally is proud to be a fixture of the Balaclava community, who have been so loyal and engaged with the store over the last 18 years (and counting!).
